Shivalistings FAQs
Q) I have not received my conformation email, what do I do?
A) Check your spam box. Depending on your email server, certain messages may be detected as spam. If this is the case, be sure to move ShivaListings.com as an approved address.
Q) Why is my memory board posting not appearing?
A) For security purposes, the primary mourner must first approve a posting before it is viewable by all.
Q) Why is the page I created not viewable by others?
A) Make sure you have published your listing. Go to the update a listing page and click the listing which does not appear. Click the "Publish" link on the bottom.
Q) How am I protected from unwanted people getting my address?
A) The furnishing of your address is optional. It may make it easier for your visitors (especially if they are not local). If the address is furnished shivalistings can provide directions to the shiva house. If you provide an address for the shiva house it is only available to registered users with verified email addresses. You can elect to only identify the house (such as John’s house or Joe’s daughter’s house) and request those unfamiliar with the location request the address. Visitors to the site will then click a request button and fill in their name. A request will be sent to the mourner or his designated party and the address can be emailed to the requesting party. This may be difficult and time consuming, but it’s your decision, whichever you are most comfortable. The goal is to minimize phone calls for routine information. The shiva information (including addresses) is removed 3 days after the shiva period ends.
Q) How long will the information be listed on your site?
A) The shiva information will be listed until 3 days after the period of mourning is scheduled to end. The eulogy and memorial pages and guestbook will be permanent.
Q) How do I order food from your site?
A) As we grow we will have more choices for food. You can click on the banner of the desired store or restaurant and their website will open in a new window.
Q) How do I make requests for food?
A) On the information page, you can list for which nights food is needed at your home. People can post on that they will be sponsoring all or part of a night.
Q) Why do I need to use this service? Can’t I just talk to people on my own?
A) Of course you can still contact people and tell them about the passing. This website will, however, help reduce the volume of calls you receive. After the loss of a loved one, it can be difficult to receive constant phone calls and having to share the same information over and over. There may be people who wish to pay their respects, but you don’t know them (friends of someone else in the family) and can’t contact them. Upon hearing of the loss they can go to shivalistings and find out the needed information.
Q) How long does it take to post information?
A) Our 1-2 page form is easy to complete. On average, people spend about 5 minutes filling out the form.
Q) How much does this service cost me?
A) Nothing. This is a free service and you will not incur any charges. If there are any optional services that we offer that we charge for you will be clearly informed.
Q) Will this site book the funeral home for me?
A) No, but we can put you in contact with funeral homes in your area, or any other area.
Q) What areas do you provide services in?
A) We currently cover all of the United States and will be expanding overseas soon.
Q) Where are your offices located?
A) In Jericho N.Y. We are located at 366 North Broadway Suite 410.
Q) What about people who don’t have internet service? How can they find out this information?
A) They will still have to be informed through traditional means. With more people having access to e-mail and internet, this service will significantly relieve the burden. This site can be accessed through many phone browsers and iPhone and Blackberry apps are being planned.
Q) Will my information be given out or sold to any parties not involved in the shiva or funeral?
A) No. The information will only be shared with people involved with the funeral or shiva. It will not be sold to any outside parties.
Q) How will people be able to talk about the deceased?
A) A special memorial page allows people to share stories and pictures about the deceased. Adding a memory is easy and will simply be done by typing the information into a box and clicking “post,” or by selecting the “add a photo” tab and selecting a photo from your computer.
Q) What if I don’t like what is posted on the memorial page?
A) As primary mourner you have the option of approving all postings prior to their being published on the site. Even if you allow a posting, you can change your mind and remove it later.
